Charitable fund Arcadia has awarded environmental charity ClientEarth with a £5 million, 5-year grant. ClientEarth has received four previous grants from Arcadia, in 2011, 2014, 2018, and 2023 respectively.

According to ClientEarth’s Press Release, previous Arcadia grants allowed it to implement “targeted interventions to defend terrestrial and ocean wildlife and habitats across Europe, such as the EU Nature Restoration Law”.

CEO of ClientEarth, Laura Clarke, said that Arcadia’s latest grant will be put towards expanding ClientEarth’s efforts beyond Europe’s boundaries. The £5 million grant will be put towards legal action that aids governments, NGOs, and communities in implementing suitable legal biodiversity and conservation measures.

Arcadia funds three kinds of programs: preserving endangered culture, protecting endangered nature, and promoting open access. The ClientEarth grant falls under the second of those categories. The ClientEarth shall therefore be put towards “tackling global biodiversity challenges”.

ClientEarth relies heavily on funding from foundations and governments, which constituted 80% of its income in 2022. Arcadia is among its top funders, with others including the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Bloomberg Philanthropies, Postcode Earth Trust, and more.
